Honestly, if they would add better driver support (Windows 7 64bit) as well as provide a driver separate from their bloatware, I'd consider buying another scanner in the future. That explains why they're trying so hard to push their users to use NeatWorks and subsequently lock all their data into a proprietary database. Overall Review: After extensive Googling I discovered that Neat is primarily a software development company that sells a slightly customized model of a PlusTek M12.

It's like buying an iPod that doesn't work unless you install iTunes, sign up for an AppleID, and donate a kidney (/sarcasm) first. I just want a scanner that works out of the box. The thing is a brick until you install their NeatWorks software.Įven worse, the new version of Neatworks requires you to create an online account with them and give extensive personal information to sign up (business name, type, etc). Even though the item is hardware, it's impossible to find a usable driver. That worked fine (albeit slow) for a couple of years until I moved and lost the product key.

The neat this is if you have a receipt it doesn't recognize you can type in the name, then next time you put in the receipt it will recognize it and insert the correct name. If it doesn't recognize the receipt it will still put in the amount and whatever data "figure out". It has a database of receipts that it references when it scans and inserts the correct data. The fact that it's powered by the USB helps with cord maanagement. The small size and wall mount are very useful. The NeatDesk is a desktop document scanner sold by Neat since 2006 (as shown on Neat’s official history page). I have receipts lying all around and the opportunity to not only get rid of the paper but be able to organize and sort them was too much to pass up.
Pros: After reading a review of this product in Maximum PC magazine I had to give it a try.
